In this industry, I’ve had the chance to meet many talented people doing truly interesting work. One of them is Juan Tamayo, founder of Tamayo Amps. While his main focus has been the construction of speaker cabinets, his work also extends into vintage amplifier restoration, amp archaeology, and pedal building, which is exactly what we’ll be focusing on this time.
Tamayo Amp has managed to blend the raw power of fuzz with the smooth character of a warm overdrive in two independent channels, resulting in the “Fuzzonauta”, a pedal capable of covering a huge range of textures while keeping both sides perfectly balanced and complementary.
The combination of wooden accents and a heavy-duty metal chassis gives the pedal a solid, almost indestructible feel, while also showcasing a distinctive design identity. I’ve personally had the opportunity to try it, and I can confidently say it is absolutely worth the investment.
Fuzzonauta is the first effect pedal released by Tamayo Amps, representing the brand’s continuous learning process in the design and development of heavy-duty audio gear.
The pedal combines two effects in a single enclosure. First, an op-amp based overdrive featuring selectable Germanium or Silicon diode clipping, feeding into a Muff style fuzz circuit, a simple yet incredibly powerful combination.
All of this comes housed inside a custom built aluminum enclosure, paired with wooden details recycled from the construction of Tamayo speaker cabinets.
Originally designed for guitar and low tunings, Fuzzonauta has also found its place in bass, synthesizers, and even violin setups, being used by artists such as Lorelle Meets the Obsolete, Gibrana Cervantes, Witchrot, Divide and Dissolve, Los Mundos, Slomatics, among others.
The latest “#O Series” recently sold out, and the next batch is already available for pre-order.
